Goals for Video Interviewing

The Harper Creek human resources team wanted to use one-way video interviews to allow their top candidates to more accurately demonstrate their abilities earlier in the process. They also wanted to improve the quality of their in-person interviews by sharing screening interviews with principals. Last, the team hoped video interviews would allow their hiring process to be more accessible to candidates, no matter their location.

Q&A with HR Director, Tammy Chapman:

Q:

What inspired you to look into video interviewing? Were there specific challenges in your day to day were you looking to solve with video interviewing?

A:

There are times when what you read on a resume does not match what you see and hear from the applicant in-person. Video Interviews would help us see the person in a different light before bringing in for a face-to-face interview.

Q:

Did Spark Hire replace a similar tool or is this the first time your team is using video interviewing?

A:

This is the first time we've used a video interviewing tool.

Q:

What criteria did you have in mind for a video interviewing solution?

A:

I heard about video interviewing at a conference. It wasn't a tool I'd considered before. Upon learning what it could do for our hiring process, I was interested.

Q:

What made you choose Spark Hire as your video interviewing solution?

A:

The customer service is outstanding.

Q:

What was getting started with Spark Hire like?

A:

It was great. The fact that I have a Customer Success Manager says it all. Spark Hire truly wants us to be successful in our search for staff.

Q:

How has Spark Hire improved your hiring metrics and process?

A:

We have decreased our timeline to hire. We no longer feel like we need to have a large number of interviewees to ensure we get the best team member. Spark Hire helps us narrow the applicants in a fair and legal way.

Q:

What was your team’s hiring process prior to using Spark Hire?

A:

We would review resumes and applications to decide who gets, and does not get, an in-person interview.

Q:

How do you get your team members to buy into video interviewing?

A:

One of the most effective selling points was the decrease in time spent to hire someone.

Q:

What was your aha moment — the moment you knew you loved Spark Hire?

A:

As we thought about budgets the year after we first used Spark Hire, ALL of our hiring supervisors asked if we were going to ensure we continued to use the platform for hiring.

Q:

Why should other school districts look into video interviewing?

A:

This process gives districts a faster and more accurate glimpse into applicants' skills and abilities. Hearing straight from candidates through their one-way video interviews carries much more weight than our gut feeling about who we should interview.

Q:

What are three words that describe your experience working with Spark Hire?

A:

Customer Service Oriented
