Q&A with Recruiter, Sarah Zakaria

Q:

What inspired you to look into video interviewing?

A:

A co-worker was relocating to another city and was asked to take the Spark Hire interview for a position she was interviewing for. She brought it to the team's attention and we decided to pursue it further.

Q:

What criteria did you have in mind for a video interviewing solution?

A:

We wanted a platform that was easy for our candidates and us to use, and had a good technical support platform if candidates had trouble using the product.

Q:

What did you found most attractive about Spark Hire when signing up?

A:

The product was affordable for us and after trying it out for ourselves, it received a very positive response.

Q:

What was getting started with Spark Hire like?

A:

The learning curve for us was minimal. Spark Hire is very easy to figure out, and their tech support was awesome at answering any questions we had.

Q:

What are some of the results you’ve seen with Spark Hire?

A:

Time saved is definitely a huge benefit for us, as well as money saved by not bringing in candidates that were a match on paper, but not otherwise.

Q:

What was your team’s hiring process prior to using Spark Hire?

A:

We would review resumes, phone screen candidates, do a Webex interview, and finally bring candidates in for on-site interviews.

Q:

How does video interviewing fit into your hiring process?

A:

Spark Hire has eliminated our need for a phone screen and Webex interview which has saved us a significant amount of time and money.

Q:

How do you get your team members to buy in to video interviewing?

A:

Buy-in is pretty easy for us. When we get new team members onboard, we discuss the time and cost savings along the positive, successful history we have had using it.

Q:

What was your aha moment -- the moment you knew you loved Spark Hire?

A:

I would say watching the candidate interviews for the first time and realizing that we have just saved a lot of time by not having to conduct interviews with applicants that are not a match for the position.

Q:

Why should other universities look into video interviewing?

A:

It really is a state-of-the-art way to look at recruiting. Everything today is technology embedded, so using Spark Hire demonstrates to applicants that your university is current with today's norms.

What is your favorite aspect of video interviewing?

The ease of using it. It takes a very short time to put our interview together and send it out.
